Our Valued Staff
Jason S. Thompson, Licensee-in-Charge
Jason is a lifelong resident of the tri-state area with over ten years experience as a funeral director and embalmer, being licensed in both West Virginia and Ohio. He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1998 with a Bachelor’s in Mortuary Science and became certified by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice (APFSP) in 2002. A current resident of Milton, Jason has been a part of the Heck Funeral Home family for eight years. He is a member of the Barboursville Moose and enjoys playing golf, attending concerts, going to ball games and spending time with his two sons, Blake & Gavin.
Merrill C. Lunsford, Funeral Director
Merrill is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and has been with Heck Funeral Home for over 60 years. He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1953. Merrill and his wife Annette are members of the Milton Baptist Church. He is active in the Milton V.F.W., Post 9796 and spends his spare time woodworking and making apple butter.
C.H. "Bud" Gibson, Funeral Attendant
A lifelong resident of Milton, Bud is a retired ACG Sgt. Major with the U.S. Marine Corps and former police chief of Milton, Wayne, and Altoona, AL. He has an Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement from Oakland Community College. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, Shriners, and past worthy patron three times of the Order of the Eastern Star. He is also past Commandant of the Marine Corps League. He began working at Heck Funeral Home in 1989. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife Shirley on their farm and taking care of their animals. He also enjoys hunting and fishing.
Shirley Gibson, Funeral Attendant
Shirley has been working part-time at Heck Funeral Home for several years now as a funeral attendant. She is a full time teacher for Cabell County Schools and has a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and an A.A.S. in Early Childhood/Kindergarten. Shirley is a member of the Milton Eastern Star and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and working and taking care of all the animals on the farm in Ashton that she and her husband, Bud own. Her parents live in Florida; her brother and his family live in Virginia and her sister and her family live in Illinois.
Don Reynolds, Funeral Attendant
Don is a lifelong resident of Milton and is one of the newest members of the staff at Heck Funeral Home. Don is a member of Guyan Creek Church, where he has been Pastor for 22 years. He has also been a member of the Pastoral Care staff at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington for the past three years. He has a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Frankie Hudnall and three grandchildren, Preston, Corey and Baylee. Don doesn't have a lot of spare time, but when he does, he enjoys riding four-wheelers and attending sporting events with his grandchildren.
Glen Robertson, Funeral Attendant
Glen is a 1956 graduate of Huntington High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 8 years. He is a former employee of Marshall University and retired with 32 years of service from Building Trades where he did construction. He is an ordained deacon of the First Altizer Freewill Baptist Church, where he has been a member for 29 years. He and his wife Sue of 53 years have two sons and one daughter in law, Mark and Lisa Robertson and Randy Robertson. They also have one granddaughter whom they adore, Shelby Sue Robertson. In his spare time Glen is an avid golfer and has played in golf tournaments all across the U.S. some as far away as Arkansas and as close to home as Marietta, OH. He also enjoys fishing.
Douglas Spurlock, Funeral Attendant
Doug is a lifelong resident of the tri-state area. He and his wife, Rosey have lived on Spurlock Creek in Glenwood for the past 46 years. He most recently pastored Second Guyandotte Baptist Church for 10 years. He has also worked as a member of the Pastoral Care staff at St. Mary's Medical Center for the past two years. Doug enjoys ministering to people and spending time with his family.
